Design/Build Clients

Over the past several years Spectrum has offered our clients the Design/Build approach to remodeling, utilizing the expertise of both the Design and Construction teams. By working with one company to both design and build your project, you take advantage of our teams’ professional management ability to ease you through the remodeling process, and deliver your transformed home at the targeted budget.

The following projects involved both the Construction and Design Teams:

Jay & Marti de Benedetti
Atherton, CA

Satisfied clients call on SPECTRUM FINE HOMES again and again for several remodeling projects including kitchen and lighting design.

Jay and Marti live in a large ranch style home in the Atherton foothills. They purchased their home approximately fifteen years ago and contracted SPECTRUM FINE HOMES to remodel the home to suit their needs. This involved removing all interior walls from the rear half of their house, and converting it to a very large master suite. In this master suite, we built two bathrooms, with a steam room in one, and a whirlpool bath in the other. All counters and floors are marble. Marti has a 144 square foot closet all her own. In the bedroom we built a fireplace with marble surround and built-in bookcases, as well as a built-in entertainment center. We also re-designed the sunroom, dining, living room, and family room, enlarged a guest bedroom, and remodeled the adjoining bathroom, and added on a new utility room. In addition to the remodeling, we also were responsible for the lighting design in the remodeled areas, incorporating state of the art design with low voltage and compact fluorescent fixtures. Also included in the project was the remodel of the guesthouse on the property. The next year Jay & Marti brought us back to build a new pool house. The building is 650 square feet and it houses storage areas, a multi-purpose room with wet bar, a bathroom and pool equipment. Our work on the de Bennedetti house was featured on the 1993 Atherton home tour. Our 1998 project was to design and build a new expanded kitchen and remodel of the sunroom. Working closely with Marti to incorporate all her great ideas, this striking addition to their home continues the fun flavor and style of the de Bennedettis. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES won the prestigious NARI Judges’ Choice Award for this kitchen project and Sunset Magazine featured photos of the kitchen in an article about lighting.

Mike & Lorraine Turner
Cupertino, CA

A complete interior remake of a home with “good bones”.

The Turner’s home, located in a lovely Cupertino neighborhood, was built in the ‘60’s. They wanted to update the interior architecture and finishes of almost every room, and utilized the design/build team at SPECTRUM FINE HOMES, INC., to guide them through the process, from start to finish. Working with them has been a great experience for our team, as well as for the Turners. We were in constant communication with this busy couple throughout the project, via weekly e-mail, and site meetings with the key team members, both design & construction. It was great to see the Turner’s excitement and pleasure as the project took shape and the design became a reality, with a completely new kitchen, new family room built-in cabinetry, the landing built-ins featuring an ironing & mail center, three new bathrooms, two fireplace and mantle updates, as well as new flooring, mouldings and paint throughout. We also transformed the exterior with an update that makes this home the star of the neighborhood.

Jesse Cool
Palo Alto, CA

‘Green Building’ – A Remodel that Reuses, Recycles, and Reduces
the negative impact on the environment . . . and Increases the
Comfort of this home.

Jesse, a celebrity chef and owner of three local restaurants, is known for her philosophy of sustainable living and concern for the environment. It was natural for her to want to incorporate as many ‘Green Building’ techniques and products into the remodel of her charming 1928 mission style bungalow in the College Terrace neighborhood in Palo Alto. It was important to maintain the charm and ambiance of this older home, but also do a complete kitchen and bathroom remodel to expand the space in the kitchen to accommodate the classes she will be teaching there. Without impacting the budget, we were able to utilize many ‘Green Building’ concepts that will significantly influence the comfort of the home, conserve energy, improve the indoor air quality, and have a sustainable and conscientious impact on the environment, without sacrificing any of the beauty, charm, and ambiance of the older home. Watch for a weekly segment on NBC Channel 11, In Wine Country , airing in Fall 2004, which chronicles the process of this special project. Beginning in late summer, 2004, Jesse will host a monthly evening event in which you can visit the home, sample her cooking, and see for yourself what ‘Green Building’ is really all about. You can also contact her, anytime, and ask her about the Spectrum Fine Homes team of professionals, and the experience of working with us.

Ron & Sarah Mosso
Fremont, CA

A new kitchen and redo of two fireplaces and deck update family home.

Through a referral from a past client, the Mosso family came to SPECTRUM FINE HOMES, INC. needing to replace a rotten second storey deck. Spectrum built the new deck from beautiful ironwood, and did such a spectacular job that the Mossos decided to have us move inside to update the interior of their home. We designed and built a new cherry kitchen, replaced the dated entry tiles with slate, and re-faced two fireplaces with coordinating slate and cherry mantles and cabinets. Now their home has the continuity of beautiful finishes from the entry to the outside, and this active family can enjoy entertaining and family life in their “new” home.

Mark & Petra Kinsman
Santa Clara, CA

They only gave them one name for remodeling: SPECTRUM FINE HOMES

Brand Kitchens, referred Mark & Petra Kinsman to us. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES built an addition for Brand Kitchens in 1994 and when the Kinsman’s called them for the name of a contractor, Brand Kitchens only gave them our name. The Kinsman’s wanted a home office addition, and contracted with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES for design services as well as construction.

Kurt & Parke Lehman
Menlo Park, CA

SPECTRUM FINE HOMES work on kitchen sells home!

Kurt and Parke came to us to provide design and construction for a remodel of their kitchen.. They needed more room in their kitchen to accommodate an eating area as well as an island. Their 18” deep counters were just not functional. We extended the kitchen space into the backyard, designed the workspace and cabinets around their vintage 1950’s range, and used beautiful maple custom cabinets. The new kitchen is simple and full of light.

Shortly after completing their wonderful kitchen, they purchased a larger “fixer-upper” and are started all over again, along with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES! They told us everyone loved the kitchen in their first home, and that was what sold their house.

We went on to work with Kurt and Parke to design and build an addition to their new home, which also includes a remodel of the kitchen. The design of this addition had the challenge of working with the FEMA flood plain requirements.

Chuck Fischer
Mountain View, CA

SPECTRUM FINE HOMES works with clients’ own architect with
successful results.

The Fischers wanted more space in their living room and needed a new bedroom and bathroom for their teenage son. Mike Kinoshita, their architect, designed the addition, and SPECTRUM FINE HOMES built the project as well as designed the cabinetry surrounding the new fireplace, the limestone fireplace surround, lighting, and finish work. The Fischers have recommended us to several of their neighbors, and recently suggested at a party, that the neighborhood rename the street to “Spectrum Drive”.

Kirstin & James Chan
Mountain View, CA

1960’s Ranch Style Home updated with Color & Style.

The Chan’s moved into their plain ranch style home in Mountain View and with their youthful attitude and taste, longed for some changes. Referred to SPECTRUM FINE HOMES by ASID because of our knowledge of Feng Shui, they have used both our design and construction capabilities in updating their home with two skylights, beautiful mouldings, lots of built-ins, a new fireplace mantle and surround, two fully remodeled bathrooms, wonderful and whimsical lighting, and a dynamic color scheme throughout. Most recently, Nicholas worked with them on a new kitchen design, which included their choice of IKEA cabinets and some very innovative new materials for flooring, counters and backsplash. It’s fun to see an ordinary rancher turn into an extraordinary reflection of our client’s upbeat lifestyle. This project was featured on the cover of the Palo Alto Weekly’s Home & Design section as well as in San Jose Magazine’s January 2003 issue, and won several awards for SPECTRUM FINE HOMES.

Mary & Herb Engstrom
San Jose, CA

Enhancing the family room and new kitchen were top priority.

Herb & Mary wanted to update their ranch style home. A new kitchen was top priority, but they also wanted to open the living room to their backyard. We installed Anderson sliding wood patio doors, designed and built a redwood patio cover, and re-designed the old brick fireplace to include a custom mantle and slate/limestone hearth and surround. The kitchen remodel included using beautiful cherry custom cabinets and tumbled marble countertops, enlarging the well of an existing skylight, and opening the kitchen to the dining area. Working together, SPECTRUM FINE HOMES design and construction teams not only updated the Engstrom’s home, but also made it into a beautiful and functional expression of their lifestyle.

Anne Herndon
Sunnyvale, CA

The entire SPECTRUM FINE HOMES team comes into play, giving our client the perfect environment for her lifestyle.

Anne Herndon is Mary Engstrom’s close friend. When she witnessed the transformation of the Engstrom home, and observed the relationship we developed with Mary and Herb, she knew SPECTRUM FINE HOMES would be the right choice for her remodeling, too. Anne plans to remain in the friendly neighborhood home where she and her late husband raised their family, but now she has the opportunity to create the perfect environment for herself. Her love of art and fine craftsmanship have been the guideposts in developing the design for the remodel and the furnishing of her living room, kitchen, dining room/sunroom, study, and one bathroom in the home. The construction has been completed to bring all the elements of a unique and wonderful design into reality, and we have seen a metamorphosis to rival the most beautiful butterfly! Talk to Anne about the experience of a project managed by the SPECTRUM FINE HOMES teams of professionals.

Kim & Pat McCarthy
Mountain View, CA

A new addition to enhance family living.

The McCarthys wanted to expand their home to create a ‘Great- Room’ that would join the Living Room, Kitchen, and Dining Room. The new space would have French doors on two sides to access the backyard. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES designed the addition, assembled the plans for permit and is now in the process of building the project. The final remodel included skylights that made a significant architectural statement and new trellis work on the exterior of the addition, creating an indoor/outdoor space for the entire family to enjoy.

Sandy & Brian Howley
Mountain View, CA

70’s kitchen remodel brought back to its Craftsman heritage.

Sandy & Brian live in a wonderful Craftsman cottage, complete with many of the original fixtures and hardware. Their choice in decorating the living room and dining room was to maintain the feeling of the period architecture, which they accomplished very successfully. But the poor kitchen had been remodeled in the ‘70’s, and in the process, attention had not been paid to the style of the home. We wanted to bring back the vintage character, but make this kitchen functional for Sandy & Brian’s more modern lifestyle. Patterning new custom painted cabinets after the built in sideboard & pantry we retained, and designing a portable cherry butcher block piece of furniture to replace the old island, we created cabinetry that looks like it was built with the old home. We matched the old hardware on the cabinets, used a reproduction vintage light fixture, a farmhouse sink and wall mounted faucet, and sanded the old fir floors to accept a custom paint job done by Sandy. This has been a fun and rewarding project, restoring such a great old home. This project won the First Place Award for Historical Renovation in the NARI Meta 2000 Competition.

Ann Friauf & Kari Lemons
Mountain View, CA

Working closely with clients to create a room for family life.

Ann & Kari wanted to add a family room to their home. We worked closely with them in designing the space and were responsible for drafting the construction drawings for permits. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES built this addition, too. It includes the family/play room, a small office, and a bathroom.

Robert & Betty Hertz
Sunnyvale, CA

Kitchen expansion project includes working drawings and construction.

Bob & Betty had a kitchen plan done by another designer and came to us to provide working drawings and construction. The scope of work grew to include an expansion of the kitchen, as well as the new cabinets, appliances, counter tops, and oak flooring that SPECTRUM FINE HOMES installed. They have really been enjoying their beautiful new, enlarged kitchen.

Remodeling Clients

We are proud of SPECTRUM FINE HOMES’ project management skills, our thorough communication throughout the project, and our ability to work with a team of remodeling professionals such as your architect or designer.

The following projects involved the Construction Team:

Frank & Dorothy DeOcampo
Mountain View, CA

Whole house remodel adds second story and reconfigures entire home.

Dorothy and Bob Davis coached Little League together for two years and became good friends. When it was time to remodel their small home, she did not need to talk to anyone else about handling the project. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES introduced the DeOcampos to Robert German, architect for Pyramid Design Group, and we worked as a design/build team to remodel the entire home. This started with removing the roof and gutting the interior. All the wall surfaces were removed and structural elements were added to the first floor. The first floor received a new floor plan, and the kitchen and bathroom were completely remodeled. The new second floor included a master suite and walk-in closet, along with a sunny second story deck. This project involved many necessary changes in the scope of work, but SPECTRUM FINE HOMES’ attention and professional management guided the DeOcampos through the process, the end result being a stunning new home, now the perfect size for their family.

Eric & Marie Evitt
Mountain View, CA

Finally, a real master bedroom – built by a team with
good communication skills.

The Evitt home had a modest floor plan that no longer suited the needs of the owners. The new design added a master bedroom and bath at the far end of the house, a guest suite in front, a newly configured entry and Andersen box bay windows in the front three bedrooms. Additionally, one of the original bedrooms was converted to an office, and a new garage was built.

SPECTRUM FINE HOMES was brought in to perform the construction work when the original contractor was fired for poor listening skills. Daily meetings and a clear “paper trail” helped the owners through the inevitable challenges of a major remodel.

Ying & Stephen Mitchell
Palo Alto, CA

Guest suite addition and a reconfiguring of existing space.

Along with help form Architect Mike Kinoshita, Steve and Ying boldly reconfigured their home to better suit their needs for a guest suite. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES performed the construction, changing the existing bedroom wing from three bedrooms and two baths, to a two-and-two arrangement, with each room borrowing space from the bedroom that was eliminated. A new guest suite was added, the footprint of the family room, dining room, and entry was changed, new windows were installed throughout, and the kitchen was remodeled. With Steve’s attention to detail, Ying’s organizational skills, and Spectrum’s thorough communication and project management, the project was smooth and enjoyable for all.

Dave & Diane Turner
Mountain View, CA

A new larger kitchen and renovated family room update this
Mountain View home.

The Turners were referred to SPECTRUM FINE HOMES, INC. by their designer, Barbara Carlitz. Barbara had designed the project for the Evitts that we built, and the Evitts also referred the Turners to us. Dave and Diane entertained multiple bids from contractors, but it was the final referral to Spectrum from their close friends, the Fischers, one of our design/build clients, that was the deciding factor in their choosing SPECTRUM FINE HOMES, Inc. Their project was completed in 2003, and they are pleased and excited about their ‘new’ home. Call them for a referral; they are the ‘referral experts’!

Jack & Ann Moses
Palo Alto, CA

A complete second story remodeling project including
architectural detailing.

The Moses family lives in Palo Alto. They contracted with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES to remodel their second story. This project involved vaulted ceilings in two rooms, new closets as well as enlarging an existing one, remodeling the master bath and installing new sheet rock and trim treatment throughout.

Kay & Richard McGuire
Palo Alto, CA

Clients have 100% satisfaction with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES.

Kay and Richard had an addition put on their home. Another contractor did the work. The Mcguires were less than 100% satisfied with the work performed by this other company. The Mcguires sought the advice of their architect and were referred to SPECTRUM FINE HOMES to install their kitchen cabinets. The Mcguires were so impressed with our service and workmanship that they brought us back to complete the work on their addition and remodel of their home.

Peter & Sue Ward
Los Altos, CA

Facelift for worn out master bathroom and house front.

The Wards had a tired and worn out master bathroom. On this job we replaced all fixtures, installed a new shower, tile countertops, floors, and wainscot. Peter and Sue hired us a second time in 1993 to install Andersen Windows and give a facelift to the front of the house which included new siding and a complete re-paint of all exterior surfaces.

Elizabeth & Wes Raffel
Palo Alto, CA

Interior detailing makes this home more distinctive.

The Raffels own a custom home built by Traditional Homes, Inc. Technically this was a remodel, but only one room was left from the original home, and the remaining 3,500 square feet was new. SPECTRUM FINE HOMES was contracted to install all new woodwork, doors, cabinets, hardware, and accessories throughout the home. There was quite a bit of this interior finish work to be done, and much of it was designed on the job to suit the client's wishes. Elizabeth had us come back out to help convert a room on the second floor into a nursery for the newest member of the Raffle family. Later we worked with the Raffles to give them a covered patio using some large timbers to give a massive and substantial feel to a small space.

Kevin & Keren Hoover
San Jose, CA

Growing family needs more space – SPECTRUM FINE HOMES delivers!

The Hoover's had a dilemma: they had a very small kitchen and a growing family. The design for the new kitchen was drawn by others, and they retained our firm to do the construction. We extended the kitchen to incorporate the porch, and some space from the garage. By doing this we almost doubled the available space. The Hoover's chose all new cabinets, counters, appliances and lighting. We are told they love every minute they spend in their kitchen. In addition to the kitchen we gave new surface treatment to the halls, and living and dining areas. The Hoovers later called us back to do complete remodels on both of their bathrooms.

Michael & Donny England
San Jose, CA

All new construction to create a space for an at-home business.

The England's have a home business and wanted to move it out of the house. They contracted with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES to build a 700+ square foot detached addition behind their home. This was all new construction from the ground-up. At the Client Appreciation party we held at our Stierlin Road office, the Englands brought their “Baby Book” full of photos to show off Spectrum’s impeccable work.

Ron & Michelle Garcia
San Jose, CA

Working with client-created remodeling plans.

The Garcia's wanted a new kitchen. Ron drew the plans himself. We added 400+ square feet to the rear of the house and this became the new kitchen. We then converted the old kitchen into a bedroom. The Garcias home schooled their children and were there every day of the project. When we were done they considered us a part of their family.

Alice & Sho Kohatsu
Palo Alto, CA

SPECTRUM FINE HOMES called in to finish a project.

Alice & Sho were having a difficult time with another contractor who was designing an addition to their home. American Home Kitchens recommended that they speak with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES and they elected to have us finish the design and build the project. We enlarged their kitchen, relocated their utilities, remodeled their dining room and created a multi-use room where their grandchildren can play. The kitchen also included two spectacular skylights that flood the room with light.

Jim Stephens & Susan Parks
Los Altos, CA

You gotta have friends!

Jim & Susan were referred to us by a mutual friend, Mark Azzopardi. They had plans already in place for a new family room addition and were looking for a contractor to do the work. Mark worked with us and the Stephens as a consultant while we completed the work.

Hank & Ann Barry
Palo Alto, CA

Substantial family room addition includes stunning detail
trim work and cabinets.

Hank & Ann approached us with plans for a substantial family room addition to their beautiful two-story home in old Palo Alto. The plans were drawn by the Bob Flury Design Group of Los Gatos. They live next door to the Raffles and are close friends to Jack & Ann Moses, so we came well referred. The addition was stunning, with a lot of detailed trim work and cabinets. Later they called us back to enlarge their children's bedroom. This was done by expanding into the attic and adding a new dormer.

Todd & Stephanie Chipman
San Jose, CA

Adjusting architectural plans to fit into a budget.

Todd & Stephanie had plans done by a local Architect but were overwhelmed by the cost. We worked with the Chipmans to change the scope of the work and structure the contract to fit in their budget. We worked on their home to give them a new master bedroom, with bath and walk in closet. Talk to the Chipmans about their experience with the competitive bid process as well as their experience working with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES. If at all possible, consider the design/build process, or at least select your contractor early enough so that you can have a firm grip on your project's cost in the design stages.

Charles & Chris Tucker
Los Altos, CA

First a new home office and then new windows and exterior doors
update charming Los Altos home.

The Tuckers were referred to us by another client when they wanted to turn their well-worn bonus room into a home office. This was achieved with a new electrical plan and cherry cabinets, along with a sunny skylight. Impressed with this project, the Tuckers called SPECTRUM FINE HOMES back to change all the windows in their home. Chris and Charles selected Andersen windows, and Bob suggested brick moulding to frame the openings. Along with the windows, SPECTRUM FINE HOMES also installed three French door sets and a bay window. The Tuckers were having leak problems on a rear yard second story deck, and SPECTRUM FINE HOMES researched and found the right surface for the deck and rebuilt the structure. All these changes, along with a new deck railing facing the street, have given the Tuckers a fantastic new exterior, which they are enjoying more each day.

Interior Design Clients

We are proud of the quality of our work and the attentive working relationship we establish with all of our clients. We encourage you to contact any of our clients to discuss how they feel about SPECTRUM FINE HOMES. In addition, we’d be happy to arrange a visit at any of our client’s homes so you can view our work firsthand.

The following projects involved the Interior Design Team:

Jodi & Dave Murphy
Emerald Hills, CA

80’s standard oak transformed into English/French blend Kitchen
with Old World style and refreshing functionality.

Jodi & Dave longed for a kitchen transported from the south of France and cobblestone streets of England with a large island workstation and adjoining family table. Our goal was to create the special ambiance of antiques combined with exquisite finishes on countertops and cabinets, along with a comfortable and usable family space. The kitchen is now complete and is everything Jodi had dreamed of. . . and more! Not only beautiful, everything has its place including a special “goodie” drawer for their beloved cocker spaniel. Jodi, a non-cook, is even thinking of taking cooking classes so her cuisine can live up to this wonderful kitchen! It has truly become the heart of their home for entertaining and everyday family life.

As the Murphys continue to update their home, Jodi has consulted with SPECTRUM FINE HOMES’ design team in the planning and furnishing of the family home theater room, as well as in several other areas. Be sure to ask her about the advantages to working with a designer, and the ongoing relationship with our firm.

Renee & Ian Schaeffer
San Jose, CA

A new sophisticated interior design for a young professional couple.

Renee & Ian were ready to update their furnishings to match their professional & active lifestyle. Working closely with the SPECTRUM FINE HOMES designer, they started by focusing on the

family room and the upstairs entertainment room. Through creative design and selection of furnishings, the newly furnished spaces have an up to date sophistication that will be enjoyed by this couple for years to come.

Chris & Lori Toomey
Cupertino, CA

Custom details and color add character to a home in a new development.

Chris and Lori purchased a new home built by the O’Brian Group in the Cupertino foothills, and before moving in had SPECTRUM FINE HOMES customize the home with interior trim and wonderful color throughout. Nicholas also designed an elegant, but whimsical, stencil for the powder room, which echoed the design of the Tibetan area rug he specified for the entry foyer. The living room & dining room furnishings and window treatments he designed further enhanced the custom character of their new home, taking it far beyond others in the development.

Gary & Jenny Viljoen
Tampa, FL

Turnkey design services for clients’ two homes.

Gary & Jenny wanted to customize their five-year-old Citation home, as well as update their furnishings throughout. We were involved in the overall design concept for their home, as well as specifying all the color, flooring, furniture, custom built-ins, and helping to display their accessories. Project management was also part of the ongoing project. They have now moved to Florida, and SPECTRUM FINE HOMES has worked closely with them to do the same for their new custom home in Tampa. The Viljoens welcome calls from our potential clients here in California, and we also have great photos of their Mountain View home.

Diana Holland
Mountain View, CA

Providing expertise on furnishings and finishes.

We helped Diana update her furnishings in her living room and dining room, as well as advise on finishes in her kitchen, which she had “refaced”. Some of the furniture and fabrics we specified, she purchased through us, and some she purchased on her own at retail stores. The end result was a fresh, soft & feminine downstairs living area, truly reflecting Diana’s personality and taste. We also have acted as Diana’s design consultants along the way, as she has moved through her home to update it and make it a reflection of her own personality and lifestyle. Recently she called our office to get a referral to our Feng Shui consultant, and it was so wonderful to hear how pleased and happy she was with her home.

Erin & Lisa McFall
Mountain View, CA

A new Kitchen and Master Bedroom & Bath expand this home to accommodate a growing family.

Erin & Lisa live in a wonderful family neighborhood, but their own family was growing out of the size of their home. They came to SPECTRUM FINE HOMES at first wanting a design for their Master Bedroom/Bath addition, but soon realized that a Kitchen addition was needed, too. We worked very closely with them to develop the perfect design and a complete set of construction documents for permits. Our design created a charming new exterior that takes the home far from the ‘60’s ranch style that it was originally. The remodel was completed by an array of the McFall’s family friends and associates, and we were honored to attend the open house showcasing the finished project.

Kathy & Justin Welsh
Sunnyvale

A young family grows into a new home, and brings Spectrum along, too.

Kathy and Justin used our interior design services several years ago to help them arrange the furniture and utilize the space in the home they rented in Mountain View. We worked with them to use their existing furniture and create a pulled together look for this home. This year they purchased a home in Sunnyvale and wanted some interior design advise for utilizing the space and furniture they are inheriting from their family back east. We have enjoyed this planning project, as well as the possibility of remodeling, as they discover how to make this charming 1920’s home fit their family’s lifestyle.

Anne Herndon
Sunnyvale, CA

Not just design/build, but custom furnishings, as well!

Anne’s project not only involved remodeling, but she also wanted new furnishings to complement the open plan of the kitchen, dining room, and living room. She had some pieces she wished to keep, but we added several custom upholstered pieces and custom tables, as well as space planning, color and finish specification. The two-way fireplace dividing the new living room and dining room was completely redesigned to become a beautiful focal point in this contemporary, eclectic design.

High Profile Silicon Valley Executive & Busy Family
Carmel Valley, CA

Clients’ Historical Dream Home; A designer’s dream project.

It’s not often that a project like this one comes along, and our opportunity to participate in this very exciting adventure is one that we treasure. This family came to us with dreams of building a replica of a historical gothic revival home. They had purchased, and were warehousing here in California, the architectural interiors of a fin de siecle gothic mansion, which was being demolished in Grenoble, France. Along with the architectural woodwork being warehoused, was an extensive and growing collection of gothic revival period antique furnishings that they wanted to use in this new home. As the interior designers on this project, we joined the owners and the architect to become part of the team of professionals needed to handle a project of this awesome scope. It was our responsibility to assemble the team of specialists needed to make this an accurate historical replica as well as a comfortable family home.

Updating the furnishings with an emphasis on charm and graciousness.

The warm & gracious owners of this beautiful historic home wanted the furnishings in the living room, dining room and entry hall to reflect their interest in antiques, as well as comfortable family living. By careful selection of antique pieces, as well as several custom designed and fabricated upholstered furnishings, the result of the re-decoration of these rooms is a lovely, unpretentious, warm, and inviting space for entertaining as well as daily enjoyment by this couple.

The SPECTRUM FINE HOMES team also designed and remodeled the kitchen, family room and roof/deck for this family. The resulting remodeled space respects the architectural integrity of this historical home, but truly enhances the beauty and functionality of these frequently used areas. Many ‘artisan’ quality materials and finishes were used in this project, and an attention to detail in both the design & construction is very apparent in the finished home.
